An examination of the murders of women in 2007 has found Louisiana led the nation in such killings when the culprit is a husband, boyfriend or another “intimate” relation. On a per capita basis, Louisiana was ranked No. 1 with a 2.53 homicide rate (per 100,000). Other states with high female murder rates were Alaska (2.44), Wyoming (2.33), Arkansas (2.29) and Nevada (2.23). Florida did not provide statistics that could be analyzed.

The safest states for women were Rhode Island (0.37), Iowa (0.40) and Illinois (0.41).
