Name: Freden, Brad
Current Position: Former Ambassador

Brad Freden assumed the position of deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassy in Slovenia in August 2008 and was also designated chargé d’affaires shortly thereafter. Originally from California, he graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, with a degree in International Politics, and earned a master’s degree in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

 
Freden served in the U.S. Air Force before joining the Foreign Service. In Washington, he has served in the State Department Operations Center and in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. His overseas assignments have included Vice Consul in Merida, Mexico; and Political officer in Sri Lanka, Political-Military Affairs Officer in the Czech Republic and Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs in Bulgaria, a position he held until July 2007.
 
Freden and his wife, Piedad, have two children.
