Name: Mbikusita-Lewanika, Inonge
Current Position: Ambassador

Inonge Mbikusita-Lewanika has served as Zambia’s Ambassador to the US since February 26, 2003. From 1972-1980, Mbikusita-Lewanika was a professor of education and teacher training at the University of Zambia, and a lecturer at the Evelyn Hone College of Further Education and the Mongu Teacher Training College. She has also worked for nongovernmental organizations and as a community activist.

 
From 1980 to 1990, she was the UNICEF regional adviser and senior program officer in Eastern and Southern Africa, as well as in West and Central Africa.
 
Previous to her current appointment, Mbikusita-Lewanika served as a member of Parliament (1991-2001), serving on various committees specializing in foreign affairs, service, education, science and technology, children, youth and women, and as ambassador and special envoy to the Zambian president (2001-2002).
