Name: Toihiri, Mohamed
Current Position: Previous Ambassador
Mohamed Toihiri has served as the Comoros’ ambassador to the United States since September 6, 2007. He is also his nation’s representative to the United Nations. Born August 20, 1955, Toihiri earned two B.A. degrees, in French (1977) and communication (1978), as well as his master’s in communication and PhD in modern French literature, all from the University of Bordeaux in France.
 
After finishing his education, Toihiri was Cultural Director of Radio Comoros (1978) and worked in education. From 1983-1984 he taught French and African, North African and Caribbean literature at the National College of Comoros.
 
From 1986 to 1988 he worked as Director and Public Relations Director, first for Sony and then for TDK, both in Paris.
 
From 1998–2001, Toihiri was General Director of college-level technical and professional teaching for Comoros, and from 2001-2002 he was Academic Inspector of high school French teachers and French Professor in the French school of Comoros. Toihiri has also been Professor of Francophone French Indian Ocean literature at the college-level and trainer of teacher advisers, also in Indian Ocean literature, in Madagascar, Comoros, Maurice, Seychelles and Reunion. He was a French Professor for the World Health Organization in Comoros in 2002, and a French Lecturer at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in the United States from 2002-2003.
 
From 2004 until his appointment as ambassador, Toihiri worked as Senior Lecturer at the University of Comoros, in charge of the French Literature chair since 2004.
 
A native speaker of French and Comorian, Toihiri is also fluent in English and Malagasy.
