Gunmen, in a part of Angola plagued by separatist violence, opened fire with machine-guns on the bus carrying Togo's national team to the African Cup of Nations, killing the driver, an assistant coach and a team press officer, and wounding seven others, including two players. At the request of thier government, the Togolese players voted to withdraw from the tournament and return home.
